What happening at my office?

We are finally back in the office seeing chiropractic patients and shockwave therapy patients after the hurricane took out our power and our ability to see anyone. You can see this 80-foot tree fell into our parking lot, luckily it did not damage our unit or the building. Our town, Kingwood is a mess, it is still a mess, please send out prayers to those with damage to their house and some still have no power or internet. Shockwave therapy for shoulder pain, knee pain, plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow and Achilles tendinitis is giving amazing results. I think this is becoming more and more popular so helping to be able to serve all of those patients in the Houston area who do not want to get surgery on their knees, shoulders, feet and hips.

Most Current Event:

Hurricane Beryl came into the gulf of Mexico and ravaged parts of Houston. Our office is located in Kingwood, TX, about 20 miles northeast of Houston. The eye of the storm came right through Kingwood. What kind of damage can a category one hurricane cause when its eye comes right through your city? You can see what it looked like on the radar:

  • People in our area have had no power or internet for one week, and it is 97 degrees every day. It is amazing to see how society panics when then don't have power and internet, we have come to rely on these so much.
  • Power lines down in the area, electric companies from states nearby States, there are thousands of electric company trucks helping us out which is much appreciated.
  • In Kingwood, we have a country club with 5 golf courses, there were 661 trees down all together. It will take them at least 2 weeks to clear this. When people are stuck at home, one of the few things they can do is sports, golf, tennis, pickleball, riding their bike...when you can't even do these things it does drive us a bit crazy.
  • I have never seen so many trees down in Kingwood ever, (there are thousands), even with Hurricane Ike, that was a category 4 hurricane, there was not this much damage. With hurricane IKE we were without power for 2+ weeks so hopefully this will be different. After this hurricane you think to yourself, wow, maybe it is not a good idea to have this many trees in a community; they are beautiful but dangerous at the same time.
  • The more hurricanes and damage that we experience over the years, the more you really have to think about continuing to live here. Homeowners and flood insurance has skyrocketed in the last 15 years. I think this is no everyone's mind who lives in Kingwood, keep in mind this in only the beginning of the hurricane season here in the South.
  • Damage will be in the Billions; this is not the first time this has happened in our area. It is very frustrating; the post hurricane relief plan needs to be looked at again. We do appreciate all of the electric companies, employee, lineman, tree cutters and our Kingwood community for helping put up families in their homes, offering AC, food and a comfortable place to sleep. When there continues to be billions of dollars paid by insurance companies for natural disasters; eventually these insurance companies charge ridiculous rates or they just pull out of Texas.

Vacation

Right before the storm my wife and I went to Amsterdam for a much-needed vacation. We saw museums, did a canal tour, at some amazing food and of course Taylor Swift was in town and we went to see her all 3 nights. She sings, dances, plays guitar and piano, she performs 45 songs straight, TS is a machine. A packed crowd in Johan Cruyff area, we saw entire families there, moms with their daughters and even single dads with their daughters. Fans, (Swifties) came from all over, we met people from Montreal, Sweden, Texas, Germany, Paris and more. It seemed like at least 1/2 the crowd was from somewhere else than Amsterdam. Awesome fans, no one overdoing it on alcohol or marijuana, (legal there); just a very friendly crowd. We were always waiting for a taxi at about 11:30 pm every night and would always meet really nice people, and families. Some of these Swifties were traveling all over Europe, specifically to see Taylor Swift. It seemed like the cost of flying to Europe from another country and buying a Taylor Swift ticket was cheaper than going to see her anywhere in the United States, (just for the concert ticket). I saw quite a few fans singing their hearts out, crying and exchanging friendship bracelets; great to see this with some of the crazy things happening in our world today. Everyone has their own opinion about Taylor Swift, just like for other performers, I can say that this concert was something to see, the dancing, props, sound and the way she connects with the audience was nothing like I had ever seen before. We had a couple of people who bought single seats at the last minute, did not know any of her songs, but that night they were dancing around having a lot of fun...I think they went just to say that they went...but they enjoyed it a lot more than they thought.

Other things about Amsterdam, there are over 2 million bike there, everyone rides their bikes, kids, moms, moms with kids in baskets, people in business attire, and even when it is raining, and no one wears a bicycle helmet. The traffic is terrible, like most big cities, so the locals say it is quicker to ride your bike across town than taking a car, also taxi cabs are very expensive there. The weather was pretty nice, 61-66 degrees, some sunny days and some a little rainy; a good break from the 98-degree Houston weather.

Political

What is happening in politics, keep in mind I am Canadian so I do not get to vote in the Presidential election coming up. There was the televised Biden versus Trump debate; sounded like Biden was having a hard time answering questions and just navigating through the debate.
Yesterday during a rally in Pennsylvania was shot at, did not injure Trump but did kill one of his security detail. Sad that things like this are still happening in our country which is embarrassing but unfortunately not surprising.
